Derivatives

Instruments whose value is determined by the price of another asset, called the “underlying”. Underlying assets include exchange rates (currencies), interest rates, equity indexes, commodities, etc.

Derivatives are used primarily for two purposes: hedging and investment.

Their advantage for companies is an additional measure of certainty and control of financial risks, which enables them to plan their finances more reliably by managing those risks.
